What was in the original Digestzen formula?
Named their 'Digestive Blend', it originally used the essential oils of had Peppermint, ginger, tarragon, caraway, anise, coriander and fennel seeds. The blend was original formulated to help settle digestive issues. While the USA website talks about taking the essential oils internally, we do not recommend this practice. The aromatherapists we consult with when choosing our products do not believe that it's safe to do so. The blend still has benefits to diffuse and apply topically diluted in a carrier oil which we will talk about further down the article.
What is in the new ZenGest formula?
There is one ingredient swap in zengest vs digestzen. Tarragon has been replaced with cardamom. But it's not the only formula change. When the blend was reformulated, ginger, coriander and peppermint essential oils play a more prominent role in this essential oil blend.
What's the difference between ZenGest and ZenGest Touch?
ZenGest 15ml is 100% essential oils and nothing else. It is best used in an aroma diffuser. 3 to 4 drops in a diffuser will allow the aromas of the oils to help settle your digestive system. Aromas and scents have the ability to make us feel nauseas and others have the ability to help settle that. ZenGest uses the essential oils of common herbs that are known to settle the digestive system when you eat them, and distilled them in to their pure aromatic form for diffusing.
If you want to use ZenGest to rub on your skin, and traditionally this blend is rubbed on the stomach and the soles of the feet, you must dilute it in a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil first. For many people who spend a lot of time using aromatherapy in their home, they'll already have empty roller balls and fractionated coconut oil ready to dilute and make a blend up. If you're going to diffuse the oil blend and also apply it topically, the smartest option is to buy the full strength oil blend and use fractionated coconut oil and an empty roller ball and make the diluted product up yourself.
If you don't have the extra products and you mainly want to rub it on to your skin, buying ZenGest Touch gives you all the benefits of the blend, already diluted in coconut oil and already in a roller ball ready for topical application. Can you diffuse ZenGest Touch? Sure. but you'll need more of it and you'll need to remove the roller ball and then put it back and it will get messy, so it's not really recommended.
When did the ZenGest formula change?
In Australia, the formula changed when the name changed. In the USA, the formula changed in 2021. The easiest way to check to see what formula you have is to see if your blend has tarragon in it or cardamom. Cardamom is the new version of the blend.
What does ZenGest smell like?
It smells like food, because all the essential oils in the blend can be found in the herb rack in your kitchen. doTERRA describe the smell as spicy, sweet, minty, licorice. The reformulation has a stronger focus on peppermint, so you do notice the cool and freshness of the mint.
Ginger also plays a more prominent role in the blend and it's a warm and spicy aroma along with other warm spices in the blend like cardamom and anise. Fennel gives the blend that licorice smell.
