Hair mousse is a light and fluffy foam worked through the hair before styling to create volume and reduce frizz. Depending on your hair type, mousse can be applied in a different way for varying results. For this reason, it’s a versatile, multi-tasking product. Traditionally mousse comes in an aerosol can, but like the rest of our natural styling range, there’s a more eco-friendly packaging option.

What does mousse do for your hair?

Mousse is one of the best styling products to use for those wanting volume in their hair. It's capable of giving you up to three times more volume than a gel or a cream. You get shinier hair and more defined hair without the 'crunch' you can sometimes get from hair gel. Apply it correctly and you'll get to define curls, control frizz free curls and have a free flowing natural looking hair style that gives body, shine and bounce.

What's the best way to apply mousse?

Mousse is best applied to clean hair. Towel dried hair and leave it a little damp before applying. If your hair is completely dry, we recommend a light spritz of water to bring a little dampness into your hair. You'll need more product on dry hair and it won't be as effective.

Start with a small amount of mousse, no larger than a golf ball to start, or even less if you have short hair. Apply your hair mousse to the roots and then work it through with your fingers. Once it's in your hair, you can heat style or do anything you want as far as styling goes. The mousse will give you that extra volume you want.

The best way to use hair mousse for thin hair

Because it's such a lightweight hair styling product, for those with fine hair that need to add volume, sometimes using mousse is a better alternative than hair spray. Use a little less and pay extra attention to your roots.

Does hair mousse work on straight hair?

We think more about using mousse with frizzy hair, curly girls and fine hair, but there are some benefits to using mousse on straight hair. It's less about control and volume and more about giving a little lift and keeping the straight hair in place during the day. You can also get a little movement in most straight hair styles by scrunching mousse through the ends and then working around half way up the hair shaft. You won't get curls without heat styling tools, but most people with straight hair can get a little movement from the scrunch & mousse method. Lock it in with a quick burst of heat. The use of a heat protectant spray to start is a good idea.

Is mousse or gel better for curly hair?

Mousse is your styling product for the core roles of defining curls (along with hair gel) and giving volume at the roots. You can also get some frizz control with this styling foam without needing a dedicated anti-frizz serum. But isn't that what gel does too? Yes. You will find that mousse and gel work very well together in curly hair. To use them together, start with the mousse, working from the roots, to get your volume and the start of your frizz control, your shine and your curl definition. You can then add gel to the ends of your curls for the ultimate definition. The mousse will give you loose and soft curls that give a flexible hold, which can then be firmed up by defining the curls further with hair gel.

Does mousse leave your hair feeling sticky or crunchy?

No. When applied correctly, this lightweight foam keeps your hair looking and feeling natural. It's hair gel that gives you the 'crunch' factor, and waxes and creams that have the capacity to leave your hair sticky, but usually only when they're over used.
