One of the biggest tools you have in your home to help prevent food waste, along with batch preparing food to save time and stress at dinner time is your freezer. From freezing leftovers of sauces, stocks and smoothies, to having ingredients ready to go for your most cooked recipes, you can save a lot of time by freezing ingredients ready to go in portion sizes. Australian Kitchenware brand Avanti have you covered.

Our Avanti King Ice Cube Trays are perfect for many uses and many of our happy customers come back to buy more and more as they find new uses for them.

Some ideas:

"I bought this to use for making mini raw cheesecakes - the perfect size for individual portions and they come out really easily, plus it doesn't take up much room in the fridge."

"I had been thinking of trying to find a larger size ice block try to freeze broth, leftovers and so forth, so when I saw this I decided to try it. It's terrific, a good size, and because of it being silicone, it makes taking out the frozen food item easy. Stacks well in the freezer too, so I'm thinking of buying some more."

"Love these ice cube trays! I have red ones which I use to make my dishwasher tablets and toilet fizzies, but need the blue ones to freeze aquafaba, herbs, etc."

The Avanti King Ice Cube Trays are made from food grade silicone, and each tray makes six jumbo ice cubes 5cm square in size. This equates to approx 125ml or half a cup per portion. The silicone doesn't hold odors (and if it does when you have placed items with garlic etc in them then you can soak in some white vinegar overnight) and the trays can be hand washed or placed on the top shelf of the dishwasher.

"These jumbo ice cube trays are perfect for making raw treats in. You can layer ingredients if the recipe calls for it, freezing in between each layer and you end up with perfectly portioned desserts. Even if the portion size is too big for the recipe you have made you can easily slice them in half when serving.
I will be buying more! Thank you."

Things to freeze in ice cubes

  • Freeze left over smoothie or juice (eat it as an iceblock another day or just blend it up again and make a new smoothie)
  • Freeze broth and stock into portion serves
  • If you have opened a can of coconut milk and don't use it all, freeze the rest to use next time
  • As above, with cans of tomatoes, tomato stock, or even if you have made black beans for your nachos - make double and freeze some so it is ready to go for next time
  • If you have a lemon tree that is producing more lemons than you can handle, juice them all up and freeze cubes of lemon juice for adding to recipes or to your water
  • Make home made Thai curry paste and freeze into portions. Simply add a portion to a pan with your choice of veggies and/or meat and some coconut milk and dinner will be ready in just a few minutes
  • Make basil pesto and freeze ready to add to your next pasta sauce
  • Freeze portion sizes of raw treats
  • Make up a batch of baby food and freeze it for when you are in a rush
  • Store any leftover gravy from your roast dinner and use it as a base to make gravy next time
  • Freeze fruit or herbs in water to add to your water jug on a hot summer day

"A great size for freezing stock, my home grown minced garlic and mint with lemon juice in water to go into a water jug on a hot day! Easy to remove anything frozen in it with a minimum of fuss."

Outside of the kitchen these jumbo square ice cube trays from Avanti can also be used to mix paints for art and craft activities, to make home made soaps, bath bombs, or toilet cleaning bars. If you are using these ice cube trays for multiple uses then it can be a good idea to have a different colour for each purpose. Keep a certain colour allocated for the sweet treats and fruit, another for making your soap and bath bombs and another for stock and any sauces.
