It's not always easy to see if a drink bottle you're looking to buy for your kids is going to be suitable or not. This is why we're taking our most popular bottles and getting up close and personal with them. Today, we have taken some extra photos of the Thermos Funtainer water bottles so you can see exactly how the lid and the drinking straw mechanism works.

As you can see in our first photo, the Thermos Funtainer has a push button flip top lid. When you push the round button (which is easily done with one hand), the lid springs open to reveal a bpa free food grade silicone spout. Your child can easily drink without having to tip their head up. Care needs to be taken with the lid as it does have a hinge on it. If your child is a little rough with things (and accidents can happen), you can purchase replacement lids directly from Thermos Australia.

The actual bottle is 355ml in capacity and is made from food grade stainless steel. It is a double wall vacuum insulated bottle and will keep your child's drink cold for up to 12 hours. The bottle should be washed by hand. If you put it in the dishwasher, there's a good chance the paint will start peeling off.

Our next photo shows the underside of the lid. Earlier models of Thermos Funtainer bottles had a different mechanism and meant that the mouthpiece was small and was easily removed from the top of the lid. This meant the bottle was a choking hazard. The design now means that the silicone mouthpiece can only be removed from the INSIDE of the lid and only when the lid is off the bottle. The same design is used for the Foogo range of drink bottles. There is also a long removable drinking straw that reaches to the bottom of the bottle. It is made from BPA Free polypropylene plastic and replacements can be purchased for both the silicone mouthpiece and also the straw. We have looked in to glass straws for the inside of these bottles but have been unable to find one that fits so far. We will keep looking.

In our last photo, you can see the lid pulled apart for easy cleaning. Our tips for cleaning these are to use a sippy straw cleaner and allow to dry completely before putting back together. If you put the silicone piece back in to the lid before it's completely dry, it will twist out of place when you screw the lid back on and it will leak. When closed the lid on this bottle is leakproof.
