Today we're doing a focus on the Simple At That Vapour Rubs that are a part of their natural skin care range, although these rubs do far more than just provide skin care. There are two different versions in the range, the full strength Vapour Rub and a half strength Baby Vapour Rub. Both perform the same job and both have the same ingredients list, they just have the essential oils at a different strength.

What's in them?

Just 6 all natural ingredients, 2 carrier ingredients and 4 essential oils.

Shea Butter is extracted from the seeds of the fruit from the shea tree. It's a common ingredient in skin care and can be used on its own as an all over body moisturiser. Like coconut oil, it's solid but melts and is easily absorbed by the warmth of your skin. If you're particularly dry, it leaves a light film on your skin and is very nourishing. It's naturally rich in vitamins A and E, contains essential fatty acids for collagen production and has a low SPF rating of around 6 (again, similar to coconut oil).

Coconut Oil is the second carrier ingredient in the formula. It also provides moisturising properties and is rich in essential fatty acids. It tends to melt away from the skin in warmer temperatures so on its own, would turn in to a liquid in summer, but the combination of both the shea butter and coconut oil provide a smooth consistency base that says solid until application and rubs in well.

Eucalyptus Oil is added to the formula as a decongestant and expectorant. It is also known to be cooling and should only be used during the height of breathing issues. Used all the time, it can have too much of a cooling effect on the body.

Peppermint Oil, like eucalyptus oil, is a decongestant and expectorant and again is known to have both cooling and warming effects on the body, depending on circumstance.

Lemon Oil is known to stimulate the immune system. It is also photo sensitive, and you should not expose the skin to sunlight for 24 hours after rubbing anything with lemon oil on it.

Rosemary Oil has some analgesic properties and has also shown some benefits in relieving symptoms of respiratory ailments such as bronchitis.

How to use

Rub a small amount on to the chest and back when experiencing mild breathing issues associated with congestion with cold and flu. It is vital that you seek medical assistance if symptoms persist. These products are a natural alternative to chemical based vapour rubs found at the supermarket or chemist and should be used in the same manner.
