Ever since we launched our range of Retro Kitchen Swedish dish cloths last month, people have been snapping them up as quick as we can reorder and we are getting great reviews back.

"For the size and the price I was unsure how this would work. I have been using this cloth constantly for a month now, and I have been presently surprised!! Super strong, super absorbent, easy to clean and no sign of wear and tear as yet. Will be buying more for sure!!" AB

What are Swedish dish cloths?

Invented in 1949 by a Swedish man who had created a new material out of natural & renewable fibers - cotton and cellulose - these dish cloths are super absorbent, machine washable and 100% biodegradable. They soften when wet, dry extremely quickly when hung over the tap and are much more hygenic than a standard cloth, and wont disintegrate as quickly as other options with repeated washing.  The life span on Swedish dish cloths can be anywhere from 6-12mths depending how you use them and because they are biodegradable you can add to your compost pile when they are worn out.

These cloths can absorb around 15 times their own weight, making them a great option on kitchen surfaces and a perfect replacement to rolls of kitchen paper towel.

"Like the fact that you can throw it in the washing machine to wash it. Wipes up spills really well." JN

How to care for Swedish dish cloths?

Can be washed in the washing machine or in the top rack of the dishwasher.
If you use a microwave you can simply place the damp cloth on to the rack for 30 seconds on high to kill any germs.
Hang over the tap or lay flat to air dry. Do not tumble dry.

Tips for an eco friendly kitchen

We have a great range of natural cleaning products in store, including our favourite natural dishwashing liquid from Kin Kin Naturals that you can see in the image at the top of this page.

Soaking your Swedish dish cloth in some warm water and one of your favourite antibacterial essential oils (my pick is the On Guard essential oil blend by doTERRA Australia) can freshen your cloth and kill any germs that may be floating around.

Some people love using their Retro Kitchen dishcloth to clean their fruit and vegetables before cooking / eating.

The reverse side of your cloth (the one not printed on) is generally best to use if you need a little scrubbing power due to the texture on that side.

We also suggest you check out EcoCoconut for some great plastic free scrubbing brushes and scourers.
