We are excited to have launched the full range of kids makeup from No Nasties in to our store this week. We first met the ladies from No Nasties at an organic expo earlier this year. Out of all the brands we had earmarked to add to the store, this was at the very top of our list. No Nasties is a small family business based in Sydney. The makeup is all handmade in small batches by a group of mums who are dedicated to ensuring their kids get to have the same fun everyone else does without having to lather them in cheap and toxic kids makeup.

What's in the range?

We start off with play makeup sets. They are available in a regular and a deluxe pack in three colour combos so you know exactly what you're getting. The range includes a yellow, purple and pink colour range. The Deluxe boxes come with 3 eye shadows, blush, shimmer balm, lip balm, applicators and a play mirror. The regular set has 2 eye shadows, the blush, lip balm, applicators and a sheet of temporary tattoos. These are designed to be used like mum does with her adult natural makeup kit, so little princesses can copy mum. Singles in the eye shadow and the blush are available.

Next we have face paint. It comes in powder form, but with the addition of a little water, you have paint! The benefit of a powdered face paint is that the tube wont' dry up and be unusable if you use it and then put it away for 3 months. It is convenient and cost effective. A little goes a long way. The face paint come in a regular and deluxe set and we also have all 8 colours available to buy singly for $6.95 per colour.

Last in the range we have hair chalk. It's similar to the face paint in that it can be used wet, but it can also be put through the hair dry too. It is available in a set.

What's the best way to wash it off?

These coloured mineral powders are easy to wash off, but you may not want to use soap and water on little faces as it can be drying on their delicate skin. You could go to our natural makeup remover category and choose an adult product (but stay away from products with essential oils) but instead, I think a dab of coconut oil on a damp cotton ball is an easier and safer option. You could do the same thing with Jojoba Oil too if you already have some at home.

A little DIY extra

One thing I think little girls love is perfume. I have had the misfortune of smelling some kids perfume and I had a headache for 2 hours afterwards. It's very simple to make your own, and if you have some essential oils at home already, you can make them up a spray bottle or a roller ball. You do need to be really careful with kids and essential oils, so stick with something gentle. Your best bet is 1 or 2 drops of Lavender Essential Oil in a roller ball and then fill it with fractionated coconut oil. If you have access to a little glass spray bottle, even better as you can just spray it on their clothes and not have it on their skin if you think they might be sensitive. Since Lavender Oil is traditionally used to soothe bites and stings, it is the safest option in pretty floral colours. While something like mandarin might be a lovely aroma too, it is worth noting that putting citrus oils on the skin makes you sensitive to UV light for 12 hours and I don't recommend doing this. A glass spray bottle and spraying their clothes is a much better idea for a citrus oil.
