There's something new in our lunch box category and we have been crossing our fingers and wishing someone would make this for years - a fully glass lunch box, including the lid. Kilner, who are best known for their glass jars, have now created a glass food container with a leakproof glass lid, so there's no plastic touching your food. Below, we outline their features.

LEAKPROOF

The glass lid is held down firmly in place with stainless steel clips and a piece of silicone is between the two for the seal. The clips hold the lid very firmly in place and do require just a little more force to open and close than I would have personally liked, but they're not that difficult to use. The seal is amazing, just not suited to those with arthritis or overly weak hands (which is me).

OVEN SAFE

The base of this glass container is oven safe. While the glass portion of the lid is made from the same glass, it has plastic on it to hold the lid down, making it unsuitable. The base can go from the oven to the table to the fridge to the freezer to the microwave, back to the table again and then in to the dishwasher. Remember, with all glass containers, oven safe or not, not extreme changes of temperature. If they're in the oven, don't plunge them in to cold water to cool down too quickly.

NO PLASTIC TOUCHING YOUR FOOD

Up until now, the glass lunch boxes in store have all had a plastic lid. For some, this is an issue. There is a big push for no plastic touching your food and drink which is why we have a dedicated category for it in our plastic free shopping guide.

They are available in 4 sizes from 350ml capacity to 1.4 litres. The first batch of stock sold very quickly but we do have more in transit for those sizes currently out of stock.

UPDATE: these are no longer stocked at Shop Naturally
