I was asked today what the difference is between BB Cream and CC Cream and how they differ from a standard natural or organic liquid foundation. We have both in store, in more than one brand, so the following information will help you make a more informed choice. Samples are available for a selection of these products to try before you purchase the full size.

BB Cream = Beauty Balm

A BB Cream is designed to replace more than one product as a quick "I only have time to put one product on my face" solution to moisturising, using a primer and then foundation (and in some cases a low SPF level sunscreen). While we're not sure that any BB Cream can replace the care and attention all these products will give your skin, they're best thought of as a lightweight tinted moisturiser, giving you enough coverage to even out your skin tone without looking too heavy. They are usually only supplied in one generic shade, and because of their lightweight coverage as compared to a mineral foundation, they will suit most skin tones, but not all.

We have two BB Cream's in our range.

lavera-beauty-balm-thumb2

Lavera BB Cream - this one is 100% natural and made in Germany. At $32.95 for 30ml, it is the dearer of the two, but very popular. It gives a light coverage that gives a bit of an 'airbrushed' look without you looking like you have a foundation on. It provides no SPF sun protection.

la-mav-bb-cream-thumb

La Mav BB Cream - this is certified organic and made in Australia. It's the first certified organic Australian BB Cream from one of our favourite organic skin care manufacturers. At $39.95 for 50ml, it is better value than the Lavera and is the bestseller out of the two.The minerals and titanium dioxide give this a natural sunscreen but it is not SPF rated. It has anti-aging ingredients and is mattifying.

CC Cream = Colour Correction

The difference between a BB Cream and a CC Cream is quite subtle and it's a new concept with Wikipedia saying the first one was marketed only as recently as 2010. They are formulated in a slightly different way to assist with the reduction of uneven redness in the skin.

We have two CC Creams in our range.

lavera-cc-cream-thumb

Lavera CC Cream - weighing in at $32.95 for 30ml, it's an 8-in-1 solution as opposed to their BB Cream which is advertised as a 6-in-1 product. It contains anti-aging ingredients including organic camu camu. It's a little lighter than the BB Cream with a little less of a scent for those with a super sensitive nose.

andalou-cc-cream-sheer-thumb

Andalou Naturals - have a CC Cream that's quite different than the Lavera. They make it in 2 shades, and it has an SPF rating of 30. At $24.95 for 58ml, it is the best value out of all the BB & CC Creams in our store. It is designed specifically for those with sensitive skin with the use of Alpine Rose Stem Cells. These do come with a significant floral scent which is perfect for some, but not for those with a sensitive nose.

We hope you found this useful. If you want more than the subtle coverage the BB Creams and CC Creams provide, we recommend you taking a visit to our natural skin care and natural makeup categories and using the products these replace one by one - a good quality natural moisturiser, primer and foundation to specifically suit your skin type, skin conditions and colouring.
