A quick search online for meal prep containers shows an endless stream of cheap plastic containers that are designed for single use and may contain harmful chemicals that will easily break down in the freezer. Reusable plastic has its place, but plastic will always break down in extremes of temperature, whether that be the oven, microwave or the freezer.
What is meal prep?
Put very simply, it's a way of preparing multiple versions of the same meal, placed in containers either in the fridge or freezer, to be pulled out at a later date. Meal prepping is done by busy people, usually on a Sunday, in preparation for the work or school week. It's a way to save time and money while still having a more balanced diet than takeaway. Meal prep containers are usually stackable, durable, and save valuable space in the fridge or freezer.
Glass meal prep containers
Cheap plastic options might be bpa free, but they'll retain smells, colour and flavour and even though they're dishwasher safe, as soon as you put a tomato based sauce in one and reheat it in the microwave, the container will never be the same again. By choosing one of our Glasslock glass meal prep containers, you have something that is freezer safe, microwave safe, dishwasher safe and oven safe (where marked). The glass base will not retain any flavour or colour and will not break down in the freezer, oven, microwave or dishwasher.
Stainless steel meal prep containers
Premium materials that won't break or break down, that's what you get when you decide to use stainless steel food storage for meal prep containers. The U Konserve containers are perfectly sized to stack in the refrigerator or freezer and they are freezer safe. They are also oven safe to a reasonable temperature but cannot go in the microwave. They're more durable than a glass lunch box and keep food fresh with their platinum grade silicone lids. They're great to eat from and are top rack dishwasher safe and food safe. They're a lunch box and a meal prep container in one.

Here's two fun cold meal prep ideas that are budget friendly, healthy and tasty. There's also an endless array of stews, leftovers, casseroles and vegie bowls you can make ahead of time to store in a meal prep container.
- Taco Bowl - use left over taco mince to make a fun lunch for anyone in the family. Add rice, corn kernels, taco mince, diced tomato and onion and grated cheese. On the day, a slice of avocado can be added and a squeeze of lemon or lime.
- Vegetarian Chop Salad - you can use anything in your fridge but we love throwing in a can of chick peas and the following diced vegetables - carrot, spanish onion, cucumber, carrot, capsicum, radish (not too much), grated or diced cheese. Make a honey & lemon dressing and by day 2, it's really soaked in and delicious.
