The first commercial shampoo bar created and sold in Australia was from Tasmanian brand Beauty and the Bees, just under 30 years ago. Their products are hand made in small batches and they were doing this on a small scale before eco became mainstream.

Their traditional shampoo bars, which are in a cube shape now, are more like a soap than a sulphate free shampoo, so they require a bit of a transition period to swap from a commercial shampoo with sulphate in it.

These traditional Beauty and the Bees shampoo bars may require a transition period from regular shampoo and may not be effective when using them with hard water. The manufacturer recommends the use of the new pH balanced shampoo bars to guarantee the best results.

In 2023, Beauty and the Bees released a pH balanced shampoo bar range that behaves more like shampoo so there’s no transition period necessary from your commercial shampoo to a natural one. The mens range is formulated specifically for thicker hair and also for beards. They are from the traditional range and include:-

For those of you with furry children, Beauty and the Bees also make a pet shampoo bar for soft shiny coats without plastic bottles. It's made in the traditional method and should be followed with 1-2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar diluted in the final rinse water.
