When looking for products for children, we have dedicated natural hair conditioner for kids too, including leave in detangling sprays. While teens should be fine to use our general range, we do recommend the little ones use kid specific hair products, including the conditioner, so their sensitive scalps are not irritated by some of the essential oils in some formulas.

Get the best results from your liquid conditioner

Choosing the right liquid conditioner to pair with your shampoo is the first step. The next step is to ensure that you apply it correctly so it works and so it doesn’t weigh down your hair.

When you wash your hair, you start from the roots and give the most attention to your scalp. When you condition your hair, it’s the complete opposite. The hair closest to your scalp isn’t as old as the ends and it has the added benefit of getting the natural oils from your scalp to condition and nourish it. You can use a boar bristle brush to help distribute natural oils further down the hair shaft, but you will still need product for further down, especially if you have long hair. Apply your liquid conditioner to the tips and work up. Too much around the roots and it will weigh your hair down.

Conditioner works better when you can leave it in your hair for as long as possible. Get your hair washed and conditioned as soon as you get in the shower and wash it out last. If you can leave the conditioner in, get out of the shower for 10-15 minutes and then get back in to rinse it off, even better.

It’s a myth that you need to shampoo your hair every time you condition it. If your hair is dry or needs some extra love, do a cowash in between, using your conditioner like you would a shampoo. A cowash, or conditioner wash, is a common method for people with curly hair, but it can be done by anyone. If you cowash up around your roots, give it a much deeper rinse than you normally would when you condition your hair after a shampoo.

Do I need to use the matching shampoo to get results?

No, you certainly don’t have to do that. We often see mis-matches when we pack customer orders. For example, you may want a clarifying shampoo as a one off to give your hair a really decent wash after a weekend of camping, but your hair is fine, so you want to condition it with a volumising conditioner. In most instances though, you’re best serviced by using the matching pair because they suit your hair type.

Will using conditioner stop me from getting split ends?

Using a good quality conditioner will slow down split ends. Be sure to really massage it into the tips of your hair, and if you’re prone to split ends, massage a little conditioner into the tips of your hair every day or two. The other ways to slow down split ends is to use a heat protectant spray when hot styling, use a hair mask weekly, don’t over brush your hair and get hair cuts on a regular basis.
