About Weleda’s packaging & recycling program
Weleda encourages their customers to keep all recyclable packaging from Weleda products and they can be sent back to them directly to be recycled through the TerraCycle program. They ask that you wait until you have a box full and then Weleda can be contacted directly for a free reply paid address to return the empty packaging to them.
Across the whole range, approx 60% of the products are packaged in recycled glass, 15% aluminium and the rest is plastic. Each material has a list of pro’s and con’s. While glass can be recycled endlessly with no quality loss, it’s heavier (giving a higher CO2 consumption during transport and might break. Aluminium has a lot of pluses but the production of it uses a lot of energy and the tubes can break at the creases. With the TerraCycle recycling scheme mentioned above, Weleda are using more recycled plastic in their plastic packing materials
