Several years ago, fluoride removal was a costly exercise and could only be done with giant benchtop units. Today, it's a completely different story. One question we get asked a lot is whether there's a water bottle with a decent filter in it. The answer is no. At best, the filter water bottles where the filters sit inside the bottle are like trying to suck a golf ball through a hose! We have had a couple of different varieties in store, but the only one left now is the Groove bottle from Camelbak. What you need to bear in mind is when you start to drink, you're not just sucking water up through a straw, you're sucking water up through a partially empty / dry filter, and it's probably a minimum of 50ml of sucking before you get any water in your mouth.

So what's the solution for portable water filtration that removes fluoride from the water?

Right now, the best (and only) option in store is the water filter jug from Waters Co Australia (pictured above with a Klean Kanteen bottle).  This jug is a 1.5 litre jug and removes 99.99% of the fluoride from the water. It not only removes fluoride, but also chlorine and the standard list of heavy metals and garbage you don't want in your water. It is, still, however, a 1.5 lire jug, and while it's relatively portable, it's not something you can pop in to your lunch bag with your lunch box and an apple.

We do have some good news though, and it's a sneak peek for a product that's coming to our shelves early in 2017

The Waters Co Waterman Portable Filter is getting a new filter cartridge system early 2017 and it takes out fluoride too.

This water filter works on the same principle as the jug, but with a simpler filter. It removes fluoride, chlorine and other contaminant, and also puts minerals back in the water, but not to the same level as the jug. The piece you see on the right in the photo above is a funnel that sits on top of the water bottle. You fill the funnel and let it drip in to the bottle, through the filter. When you drink, you sip from the edge of the bottle and the water you are drinking is already filtered. My preference with this is still to carry around something else to decant your water in to. If you're at work, you can safely have a glass water bottle on  your desk, otherwise, you might want to choose something sturdier and stick with a stainless steel water bottle. No matter which way you go, this 600ml pot is far more portable than a jug and far easier to drink from than a water filter bottle that requires you to suck the water through a filter as you drink.

The current model that does everything BUT the fluoride is available now. Please read the product description. As we receive the fluoride version in store, we will update the product accordingly.
