You don't need expensive products to remove your eye makeup at the end of the day. For those with sensitive eyes, sometimes pre-made products can irritate the eyes, even if it's organic and contains the purest of essential oils. I am a big believer in doing things as simply as possible for those with sensitives and also those on a budget, this is one makeup 'hack' that will save you dollars. There are many things that can be done with pure oils, and this week, we stumbled upon this great DIY solution for making your own makeup removal pads to clean your skin of not only the daily grime that builds up on your face by the end of the day but also your organic makeup. You won't find a cheaper solution for an organic eye makeup remover for sensitive skin.

What you'll need

A jar of coconut oil (which you probably already have in your kitchen)
A pack of Simply Gentle Organic Cotton Pads (or something cheaper from the supermarket if you're not fussy)
A small metal tin (a recycle of the tin from our Beauty & The Bees Skin Salvation is perfect) or a zip lock plastic bag

How to make the coconut oil eye removal pads

  1. Grab a glass bowl and spoon in approx. 1 teaspoon of coconut oil per pad you want to make
  2. Float the glass bowl in a larger bowl / saucepan of hot tap water, just enough to melt the oil (you could use a microwave, but it's really not necessary)
  3. Dip the cotton pads in to the melted coconut oil and allow it to absorb
  4. Lay the cotton pads with the coconut oil out flat on a plate and allow the coconut oil to solidify again
  5. Store the round cotton pads in your round metal tin or zip lock bag

If you're travelling, just pop a couple in your makeup bag and you won't have to worry about liquids leaking anywhere. If you're at home, store them with the rest of your organic skin care products. The coconut oil melts quickly when it comes in to contact with the warmth of your skin.

It is worth noting, that while this is a great tip for removing things like your eye makeup, natural mascara and the like, some people may find that using coconut oil on your whole face as a cleanser could be problematic. If you have problem skin, stick to using the coconut oil to remove hard to wash off items like your mascara only and take a quick click through to our organic skin care category to find a specific facial cleanser to suit your skin type.
