Kilner has two new innovative glass food containers that are like nothing else that's in our store. While they are marketed as a salad jar, they can be used for breakfasts, soups and so much more. For adults, they can replace your lunch box for several meals including casseroles, salads and more. Use the smaller 500ml version jar for a pile of carrot and celery sticks and pop some hummus in the container at the top. Carrying a smoothie around, if you don't own a glass water bottle, do it in the jar. We have even seen videos of people making their own healthy noodle soups for work.

Available in 2 sizes

The smaller of the two, just released this month is the Kilner Snack On The Go. It's 500ml in size. Measuring 8.5cm in diameter and 13.5cm high, it's the perfect size for a pile of carrot sticks and some dip, muesli with some pouring yoghurt in the top pot, fruit salad with crunchy toppers in the top pot or a healthy 2 minute noodle soup (add hot water at work).

The larger of the two, which was the first one released, is double the volume at 1 litre and is called Kilner Food On The Go. Measuring 9.5cm in diameter, it is just a little wider than the Snack On The Go and 18.5cm tall. You can see them both side by  side at the bottom of the blog post.

This jar is best suited to making salads. Place the denser and potentially wetter items at the bottom of the jar and your salad leaves at the top. We have seen people doing this online and making a week's worth and putting the dressing at the bottom of the jar so it doesn't spoil the salad leaves. The Food On The Go takes this one step further as you can leave it out of the main jar completely. The stainless steel pot has a silicone seal underneath and it sits firmly in to place before you screw on the lid. When the lid is on, the compartment for your salad dressing is completely leakproof not only from the outside world but also from the main compartment of the jar. It's almost like your own little bento box with a leakproof dressing pot, and unlike most bentos, the leakproof compartment here is 100% leakproof for liquids and is made from stainless steel instead of plastic. This is an impossible feature to find in any stainless steel lunch box, bento configuration or not.

Both jars are well sized to lay on their side in most of the insulated lunch bag choices in store except those that are very short in height. We are going to test them inside the top compartment of the bag from Lunchbots and feel they would be best suited to the PackIt range. These will be added to the 'what fits in my insulated lunch bag' blog series later in the year.

You will find these in our newly created plastic free products category in store and there's no plastic touching your food and no plastic packaging. What you see in the photo below is the entire packaging.
