If you have regular acne outbreaks, chances are, you have a dedicated organic acne remedy in your organic skin care bag. If you don't, rummaging around what you already have for a solution is the next best thing.

If you're a fan of using essential oils in your every day life, you may already have the right oils in your stash for a quick acne spot treatment. If you don't, and you're looking for a reason to by a particular oil, let's call him Frank for now, this is a good reason. The doTERRA Frankincense Essential Oil is one of my favourites. It does retail for $114.13, so it's a big investment. If you're going to buy a bottle of Frank, you will want to get our monies worth. There's approximately 250 drops in the bottle, so at approx. 50 cents per drop, you'll want to make sure that Frank becomes the best multi-tasker in your house. It is worth noting that Frank needs to be diluted (usually in coconut oil or another carrier oil) and 3-4 drops of Frank in a 2ml bottle will last you for quite a while. We'll be doing more posts on all the things you can use Frank for at a later date!

Essential Oils for acne

doTERRA make a specific product for acne called Clear Skin. It needs to be ordered through the USA website. It contains Rosewood, Eucalyptus, Geranium, Lemongrass and Melaleuca (or Tea Tree in Australia). For me, this formula is a giant NO because Geranium is my kryptonite. I can't imagine Rosewood is my friend either. Since I don't get a lot of breakouts, this product would be wasted on me. Instead, I prefer to get some multitasking out of the essential oils in my every day kit.

Want a gentle scrub? Try two parts brown sugar, on part coconut oil and a drop of Tea Tree Oil. Mix, apply, rinse.

Want a face oil? Use healing Tamanu Oil, which is great for acne scarring and pimp it with equal parts Tea Tree Oil, Lavender Oil, and Frankincense. Apply to your whole face.

Want a spot treatment? Use either Tea Tree Oil, Lavender Oil or Frankincense (or a combo) moderately diluted in coconut oil. While the doTERRA literature says these oils can be applied neat, we don't advise it. Get yourself a handful of small amber glass vials and make a small mixture up and keep it on hand. In a pinch, Lemon oil can also be helpful and is probably in your essential oils kit already.

doTERRA Essential Oils are therapeutic grade, and as such, are a little more expensive than other brands in store. We keep a range of doTERRA essential oils in our own warehouse which can be purchased and shipped with the rest of your Shop Naturally order. Alternatively, regular users can sign up for an account with doTERRA and receive 25% off all their doTERRA purchases. Contact us for further details
